I’m having problems with my PowerBook, iBook, or PowerMac. Can you help?

PowerPC Macs (like the ones listed in the question title) no longer receive software updates from Apple. Therefore, there are many compatibility issues with these models when used with current hardware and software, including the technology used in many browsers and websites. If you are having problems with your PowerPC Mac, it may be time for a new system.

My Mac is getting slow. What can I do?

There are numerous reasons your Mac may be slow, but the first thing you should do is to run Software Update. After you have received the latest updates or confirmed that you are already up to date, you should verify and repair disk permissions in Disk Utility. You can find Disk Utility by using Spotlight (the magnifying class in the top right corner of the menu bar) or within the Utilities folder inside the Applications folder.

After opening Disk Utility, select the volume under your hard drive. The hard drive is listed with the capacity followed by the manufacturer. The volume is just below that, and it is the name of your hard drive. After selecting the volume, click Verify Disk Permissions. When it finishes, click Repair Disk Permissions.

If your Mac is still slow after performing the above steps, check to see if your hard drive is full. If so, free up some space by moving files to an external hard drive or cloud-based storage. Lastly, upgrading from a hard drive to an SSD or upgrading your RAM will make it faster. We can perform all of the above for you, including a hardware upgrade.
